Santa Barbara, a building shaped by time

Santa Barbara stands at the entrance to Plaça de l’Església, within the historic walled heart of Altea’s old town. Built against the former town wall, the house belongs to the earliest fabric of the Vila Nova d’Altea, established in the early 17th century.

Over time, the building evolved alongside the town itself. Documents and original construction records found within the house suggest important works between the late 19th century and 1911, shaping much of the character that remains today. Carefully reimagined, Santa Barbara now offers a boutique stay rooted in history, place and atmosphere.

The Vila Nova

Originally built within the old walled town of Altea, the house was part of the early settlement created after the Carta Pobla of 1617. Built against the town wall, it belonged to the historic heart of the Vila Nova.

Many changes

Documents, plans and original records found within the house revealed important construction works carried out between the late 19th century and 1911, helping trace the building’s evolution over time.

Carefully restored and reimagined, Santa Barbara begins a new chapter as a 16-room boutique hotel in Altea’s old town, shaped by history, sea views and a refined sense of simplicity.
